Old Town Hall Construction Updates
Ground breaking kicks-off construction

On July 15, 2025, CitySpace broke ground on the new elevator and entry way to make the Old Town physically accessible for the first time in the building’s 156-year old history. The publicly bid construction project was awarded to Keiter Corporation. While preliminary work has begin, the construction work is anticipated to started on August 1, 2025.
After more than two decades of vision and planning, CitySpace has broken ground on a transformative milestone: the construction of an elevator and accessible entryway at Easthampton’s Old Town Hall. For the first time since opening in 1869, the building will be fully accessible, from basement to balcony, ushering in a new chapter for this historic civic and cultural landmark.
Designed by Kuhn Riddle Architects and built by Keiter Corporation, this $3.875 million phase includes a new elevator, accessible entrance, restored stained glass windows, and essential masonry and roof repairs. Construction on the compact Main Street site requires thoughtful coordination, and is the result of years of advocacy from local officials, community members, and volunteers dating back to the 1990s.
At the July groundbreaking, Interim Mayor Salem Derby remarked, “What makes this project and our city truly special is how many hands have lifted it.” State Senator John Velis echoed the importance of collaboration, calling it essential to making a project of this scale possible.
This is the second of three major phases in CitySpace’s restoration. The final phase will transform the upper floor into a flexible, fully accessible 350-seat performance venue.
