Old Town Hall Construction Updates

Building something new right alongside a historic landmark is never simple. With limited space and plenty of obstacles, the team has had to be both precise and creative. We’re grateful for the contractors who are making it all work. Step-by-step, the vision of a more accessible Old Town Hall is becoming real.

This week brought a major milestone with the installation of all thirteen helical piles. These steel shafts, with their screw-like blades, were drilled deep into the ground to hold the earth in place and prepare the site for excavation. Think of them as anchors that make it possible to build a sturdy foundation next to a building that’s stood on Main Street since 1869.

Getting to this point required some important prep work. Crews rerouted the building’s water and sewer lines to clear the way for new construction, while electricians in the basement have been running conduit, setting the stage for the systems that will power what comes next.

The focus now shifts to securing the site even further. The helical piles will soon be filled with concrete, and a lagging system, essentially reinforced walls to keep soil stable, will be installed. Underground plumbing is also on deck, making sure the building’s infrastructure is ready for the future. With the shoring complete, the crew can move on to preparing the foundations.

It’s a process that mixes patience with progress. Check out the latest photos for a glimpse into how CitySpace is transforming Old Town Hall, one careful move at a time.
