Excavation Work Begins
On the ground, excavation has begun in earnest. The former handicap ramp has been removed, and the site is being prepared for what comes next. This week, water service adjustments are scheduled, including work on the curb stop, which may take one to several days depending on material availability. Beginning Monday, fencing will be installed and construction work will officially get underway. We’re grateful to Easthampton's Highway Department for refreshing the street markings on Main Street in preparation. It's a thoughtful detail that helps keep everyone safe as activity increases in the area. We’ve been working closely with Kuhn Riddle Architects and Keiter to plan each step of the project with care. Safety and minimizing disruptions have been top priorities throughout the process. Included below is a general layout of the sidewalk fencing that will be in place during construction. Ramp Installed, Work Begins Next Week
We’re starting to see some signs of construction at Old Town Hall. Today, Keiter installed a new temporary accessible ramp at the front entrance of the building. This ramp will remain in place throughout the duration of the project, allowing the building to stay open and accessible to all visitors. Whether you're stopping by Big Red Frame, attending a performance, or visiting to see an exhibition at ECA or Elusie Galleries, you'll still be able to enter safely. Planning for construction
Construction is officially underway on the new elevator and entryway at Old Town Hall, but before the true shovels hit the ground, careful planning is essential. While the project’s design is relatively straightforward, its execution is anything but. Set within a tight footprint on Easthampton’s busy Main Street, the work must unfold without disrupting the daily life of the building and provide safety measures to its surroundings. Businesses like Big Red Frame, the ECA gallery, and performances in the Blue Room will continue as planned. Even the removal of something as simple as a public mailbox must be timed with precision. The first visible sign of change you may notice? A temporary accessible ramp at the front stairs, ensuring Old Town Hall remains open and accessible throughout the process.

On July 15, 2025, CitySpace broke ground on the new elevator and entry way to make the Old Town physically accessible for the first time in the building’s 156-year old history. The publicly bid construction project was awarded to Keiter Corporation. While preliminary work has begin, the construction work is anticipated to begin on August 1, 2025.
