CitySpace receives a $500,000 commitment from anonymous donors. The unrestricted five-year pledge will support the renovation of Easthampton’s Old Town Hall and the organization’s endowment.

“We are deeply honored and grateful to these donors for their generosity. This gift will have a transformative impact on CitySpace and our plans for the future,” says Burns Maxey, President of CitySpace.

A donor initially came to CitySpace with a pledge of $250,000 but when they learned more about the scope of the project and the direct impacts their donation would have on the renovation, the other decided to match the first donor’s $250,000. As a result, a pledge like this gives CitySpace the financial flexibility to invest in the forthcoming renovation of the second floor of the historic building into accessible and flexible performing arts and community space. Because of the gift’s five-year comittment, it also supports the organization’s future as it maintains the entire building and looks to its next steps as a programming entity.

Arts Play Role in Matching Gift

The donors, who prefer to remain anonymous, have an interest in the arts, enthusiasm for the region and dedication to the preservation of historic buildings. “They explained they have seen the transformative nature of arts and culture as they watched the region, and especially Easthampton, go from a sleepy mill town to a vibrant small city. The article about CitySpace acquiring a long-term lease and the $3 million commitment from the CPA piqued their interest,” says Maxey.

NAME A SEAT IN OLD TOWN HALL

CitySpace is planning for an accessible performance space in Old Town Hall's 2nd floor. For a donation of $500, you can purchase a chair that will include a plaque with a name in tribute on the back. Commemorate an artist, an anniversary, a birthday, an idea…  and help us bring Old Town Hall back to life!
Take A Seat

CitySpace has launched its campaign to renovate the second floor of Old Town Hall, a $6.6 million project of which the organization has raised over $3.8 million. As part of its campaign, the organization has launched an online crowdfunding campaign that serves as a celebration of 150-years of the building’s anniversary. This crowdfunding campaign will culminate in the Old Town Hall Ball, a party on October 19, 2019, in the Eastworks Ball Room. In addition, CitySpace is inviting naming opportunities of all levels to support the Old Town Hall renovation.
